Everything was perfect. The
weather, the crowds and the Krewes came together and put on a wonderful carnival
celebration.
The local police attempted a crackdown on the most lewd behavior and the crowds were well behaved and in a party spirit.
The Krewes threw bigger and better beads and everyone came
away loaded down with throws.
Several new floats incorporated fiber optic technology and
the resulting effects were unreal. The Leviathan in the Orpheus Parade took the lead as
the largest float in Mardi Gras.
This fellow on the right was feeling no pain on Fat Tuesday when I passed him. He certainly will have many fond memories of his trip to New Orleans ;-)
The family side of Mardi Gras seems to be going strong with major crowds on St. Charles and at parades in the outlying areas. Kids love beads and parades!!!

Well, we attempted to cram as much as possible into 6 days. We saw Jerry Lee Lewis and Kool and the Gang perform at the Bacchus Ball and Marcia Ball at the House of Blues. We met other "Net Heads" at Pat O'Briens and on the streets. We made every parade that came near us and we slept as little as possible. We also had some of the greatest food on the planet!
We shipped beads home and still had to have our luggage labeled "heavy" because of the additional beads crammed into every available inch.
Mardi Gras is indeed an experience not to be forgotten. Mardi Gras 99 will fall early again (Feb.16th) but, no matter what the weather, I would rather be at Mardi Gras than anywhere else. Hope to see you there.
