Another
opportunity to describe Mardi Gras and I am at a loss for words. Good
people all with a common goal of having a great time and experiencing
as much as possible in a very short period of time. Bin Laden and the
economy took their toll on MG2002 with much smaller crowds. However,
the people who were able to attend partied like never before. The best
behaved crowd I have ever been a part of. Police, Firefighters and
National Guardsmen were all the recipients of plenty of good will. The
weather was almost perfect for early February with only 5 raindrops on
the Endymion Parade.
Next year,
Mardi Gras Day falls on March 4th. Hopefully the war and bad economy
will be distant memories. We didn't take near enough pictures this
year. We finally got to see the greasing of the poles at the Royal
Sonesta which occurs at 10AM on Friday. Followed by breakfast at
Petunia's with Elvira and the Swiss Vampire and the Children's Parade
in the French Quarter at noon. Great reasons to arrive early on
Friday. We still have never seen the fireworks and arrival of Rex on
Lundi Gras and that will be one of our objectives for next year. I am still looking for someone with access to tickets for
the MOMS Ball (hint hint). Of course, we must allow time for Gumbo
with the Iveys at a secret location.
How
much bigger the Krewe of Elvis can become is scary. Our Lundi Gras
party had the Mississippi River Bottom packed. If we could just get
everyone to show up sober on Fat Tuesday morning it would be a
miracle.
Hope
to see you in 2003.
